Transfer Tattoos

Tattoos in the classroom

In our practical lesson this week we learnt how to transfer prints from a newspaper or magazine onto the skin. We did this by:
- choose the image you want to transfer onto the skin
- cut out the image
- place the image onto the area of skin e.g the back (secure with tape if need be)
- using cotton wool pads and nail varnish remover, gently dab the image with the pad, making sure you cover all areas of the image
- gently peal off the image

The image will obviously appear reversed on the skin, so if you are choosing text, be aware that the words will read incorrectly. After I transferred the image onto the model's back, I used Supra colours to paint over the image. This really brings the image to life and adds depth to it. I blended blues and blacks together and used brown and green tones for the scenery. I think that this technique would be really efficient and exciting if your pick the correct image and size. I would definitely be trying out some more!

We also tried out our freehand by creating some tribal tattoos. We used a range of materials such as supra colours, eye liners and tiny brushes to create those precise lines.

  1. Great example of the transfer technique used here. A pity there aren't any close-up images here. You should definitely consider using it more in combination with your freehand, which appears to be very controlled.

Looking forward to seeing your home experiments and design development for this.

Have you started working on your digital moodboard theme of Wild Kingdom yet?
