Aztec Prints

Designer prints

The word 'Aztec' means someone who comes from Aztlan, an unkown location north of Mexico.. The Aztecs were a nomadic tribe.  The Aztec print is now a fashion craze for 2012 with the bright and bold patterns continuing into this season. The Aztecs were pretty industrious and created pyramids which explains the heavy influence of geometric shapes in their designs. Aztecs made their first debut appearances in the Matthew Williamson Spring/Summer Collection in 2009.

Below is the video from the Matthew Williamson Collection

The collection shows a lot of bold, bright mixed patterns, with brilliant hues in shades of pink, red, blue, purple, green and yellow. I really love the bright and bold colours in this collection, so typically Matthew Williamson!

Designers such as Henry Holland Givenchy hinted at an Aztec/Southern American trend this year. Henry Holland took his inspiration from Mexican holiday 'Day of the Dead'.

These looks from various designers for 2012 collections reflect bold and bright patterns and textures, which I love! This would be something I would like to experiment with over the course of my project.
