Maori Tribe

A selection of images from the maori tribe

The Maoris believe in gods which represented the sky, earth, forests, and forces of nature. The Maori people also believe that the spirits of their ancestors could be called upon to help them in times of need or war. The Maori culture is rich with songs, art, dance and deep spiritual beliefs. The use of full facial Moko Tattoos died out among the Maori by the end of the 1800s, although the native people continued tattooing other parts of the body. During the last three decades tattooing has experienced a cultural renaissance throughout New Zealand society.

The Maori tribal facial tattoos would suitably be better for my catwalk look. The designs can be as intricate and detailed as I like, and possibly use some scarification techniques which I think we are looking at later in the week.
The lower back and bottom were frequent places for tattoos and is what is called Puhoro. The shape of the pattern on the bum was usually a swirly pattern.
